THE ANGELA WARNER FRIEND OF THE FOUNDATION AWARD

Honoring remarkable contributions…
Because of the remarkable impact Angela Warner had on people around her, the Minnesota Chapter of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation renamed its annual recognition award in 2003 to honor her memory.

The Angela Warner Friend of the Foundation Award is presented each year at the chapter’s formal “Breath of Life Gala” to the person or family who made the greatest contribution that year to the success of the chapter. The Breath of Life Gala is one of the Minnesota Chapter’s efforts to raise funds and awareness about CF and to further its work for find a cure.

The first recipient was Warren J. Warwick, M.D. in November 2003. Dr. Warwick founded the Cystic Fibrosis Center at the University of Minnesota in 1962. He is recognized worldwide for his expertise in the management and diagnosis of cystic fibrosis and for his co-invention of the high frequency chest compression vest widely used by CF patients. His career has been spent in a tireless pursuit of a cure for the disease and for better clinical care for those with cystic fibrosis. His work has led to innumerable innovations that have furthered his goal of improving the lives of those with cystic fibrosis.

Dr. Warwick was Angela’s doctor for most of her life. Linda and I were blessed to call him our friend as well. I had the privilege of presenting him with the first Angela Warner Friend of the Foundation and sharing with the audience my appreciation for our long association. Dr. Warwick honored me again by writing the Foreword toWalks on the Beach with Angie: A Father’s Story of Love.
