Assisting young people with CF
From the time she entered kindergarten, Angela loved school. An honors student and varsity cheerleader in high school, she had many dreams for her future and was excited about going to college. Angela attended community college in Minnesota and moved to California to finish her degree. Ultimately, Angela’s illness cut short her education, and complications led to her death at age twenty-one.

As Angela grew up, we were buoyed by the promising advances being made in the treatment of cystic fibrosis. Today many young adults with CF are living longer and more productive lives. To attain the types of jobs that will support them and also provide comprehensive health insurance coverage, vacation and sick leave, short- and long-term disability insurance and a retirement plan, they need a good education.

With rising tuition costs, many college students with CF are forced to hold jobs to help pay for their tuition and living expenses. A typical student with CF in this position is tempted to skip therapy treatments, become sleep deprived, or compromise on their nutritional needs in order to meet their work and school commitments.

Linda and I established the Angela Brooke Warner CF Scholarship Endowment Fund is to assist young people with CF as they balance school and work responsibilities with the demands of a chronic illness. The Fund provides an annual scholarship to a student with CF attending the University of Minnesota. The University of Minnesota Foundation matches contributions made to the fund, doubling the scholarship for perpetuity. The Office of Disability Services at the University of Minnesota selects recipients each year.
